Clean Gene Technology

The new set of transformation vectors being developed as part of the BRACT project will include vectors that allow the possibility of producing transgenic plants that do not carry marker genes.

These vectors will contain two T-DNAs, one that will carry the selectable marker gene and another to carry the gene of interest. In some cases, the two genes will insert into unlinked locations in the plant genome and therefore plants containing only the gene of interest can be identified among the progeny population.
